Salary: $37,520-$47,838

Description: Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to repair and maintain diesel and gasoline body-on-chassis style passenger buses as well as several automobiles.

Duties and Responsibilities: Position is primarily responsible for conducting preventive maintenance on our bus and service vehicle fleet including, but not limited to, oil changes, filter replacements, tire replacements, brake and transmission service. Additionally, this position will assist fleet maintenance staff, as needed, with inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, AC systems, brakes, and steering systems. Washing and cleaning exterior and interior of FRED buses. Assist with transporting buses for repair and road calls to repair disabled buses. Installing, replacing, and moving FRED bus stop signs.

Qualifications: Minimum requirements for the position include: high school graduation or equivalent or vocational/technical diploma in automotive or other mechanical and electrical training; three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a similar area of activity, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Incumbent must possess a valid State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) “B” with “P” endorsement or CDL permit with the ability to acquire a CDL within three months; must have familiarity with basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Application Procedure: Incumbent must be able to pass a criminal background check and physical abilities testing; passing CPR, First Aide and Passenger assistance and safety tests; and must not have any felony or substance abuse conviction within the last 10 years or any history of child molestation/abuse or DWI convictions. This position is subject to the City of Fredericksburg’s drug and alcohol testing program. Work hours may vary and may include weekends and/or evenings.
