Description: City of Fredericksburg, Va., seeks a Full Time Transit Fleet Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, the incumbent in this position manages administrative and operational aspects of maintaining and repairing diesel/gas powered buses and service vehicles in the fleet for FREDericksburg Regional Transit (FRED). The incumbent is also responsible for operating and maintaining the FRED maintenance facility, and for planning and preparing materials for the procurement of replacement and expansion vehicles for FRED. Work involves ensuring the bus fleet is fully operational and in compliance with all safety requirements; maintaining all records relating to maintenance and repair of the fleet and the maintenance facility; working with the Driver Trainer to ensure that drivers are fully trained to operate the bus fleet safely and efficiently. Incumbent actively participates in the development of fleet-related policy, plans and annual updates of FRED’s Missions, Goals and Objectives. Directs the work of mechanic and mechanics’ assistant positions and must have excellent supervisory experience. The incumbent will be a working manager completing daily mechanical repairs on FRED’s buses and service vehicles as needed. Incumbent also handles other management and supervisory responsibilities as assigned. Reports to the Assistant Director of Public Transit.

Qualifications: Minimum requirements for the position include: high school graduation or equivalent or vocational/technical diploma in automotive or other mechanical and electrical training; five or more years of management experience with bus/truck/automotive mechanics and electronics, bus operations and systems, personnel relations and supervision, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Incumbent must possess ASE certifications for bus/truck/automotive repairs or have the ability to acquire the certification within six months of their hire date. Incumbent must possess a valid State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) “B” with “P” endorsement or CDL permit with the ability to acquire a CDL within three months; must have familiarity with basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Incumbent must be able to pass a criminal record check and physical abilities testing; passing CPR, First Aide and Passenger assistance and safety tests; and must not have any felony or substance abuse conviction within the last 10 years or any history of child molestation/abuse or DWI convictions. This position is subject to the City of Fredericksburg’s drug and alcohol testing program.
