Description: The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission is accepting applications for a Sustainability Planner. MVRPC serves an innovative multi-county region of approximately one million people in the area surrounding Dayton (southwest Ohio). As a Regional Planning Commission (RPC), the agency provides planning services for members, functions as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dayton area and is the designated Areawide Water Quality planning agency for a five county area.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, performs work related to supporting MVRPC’s strategic goals for Vibrant Communities, Sustainable Solutions and Environment. This includes establishing partnerships and relationships with key governmental, institutional, and community stakeholders to develop and implement sustainability and resilience solutions. Job responsibilities include convening stakeholder meetings and committees to organize outreach events, training, workshops related to environmental topics (i.e. natural systems, energy, climate threats and adaptation), air and water quality outreach, Rideshare program outreach, and promotion of Van Pooling. Stays current on relevant changes in environmental legislation and sustainability best practices. Produces educational and information resources for members to assess, analyze, and organize their environmental performance data and reporting information. Seeks funding for Sustain Miami Valley (MVRPC sustainability business plan) through grants and partnering with key agencies and organizations. Promotes awareness of the Sustainable Miami Valley Toolkit. Assists in the completion of water quality planning projects. Performs other related duties (attend night or weekend meetings) in support of agency programs as needed.
Qualifications: The individual demonstrates a strong background in planning and meeting facilitation, working with diverse populations, and effective communication skills (verbal and written). The candidate has the ability to develop collaborative, productive, and respectful relationships and to effectively handle multiple projects and priorities. The successful candidate must possess a current valid driver’s license. Able and willing to attend evening or weekend meetings.
Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental science, biology, education, communications or related field. A minimum of four (4) years experience.
